The movie Up in the Air with George Clooney playing the part of corporate redundancy expert Ryan Bingham focuses on interpersonal relationships. Mr Bingham is hired to help ease the redundancy of long-term employees across the country. He takes his responsibilities very seriously and looks forward to the 290 days he is going to spend away from home. Yet, within this time his world changes drastically. On the way, both he and his colleague - a college graduate - Natalie played by Anna Kendrick discover that they have been lacking a lot in their lives and have to learn how to turn into better people. Clooney's Mr Bingham is a lonely business person whose private life is made up by random dates with good-looking girls at countless airports he visits regularly. His wallet is full of plastic cards from airlines which accumulate his mileage, hotel status perk cards which let him avoid encountering dissatisfied passengers and go straight to the front, and innumerable hotel room keys that are saved up and make him always try more than one key before finally opening his hotel suite's door. Having been uninvolved in the life of family members for many years, Ryan is the brother who exists but cannot be relied on. His job has turn into his family. He reckons if he should, or really wants to, go to his sister's wedding party – the girl whose life he should have been involved with after the death of their dad. The movie includes many plot lines, details and sequences that need to be viewed fresh to have a better understanding of the film. What you might initially find a comedy telling about a haughty guy who eventually turns into a pleasant person unafraid to show his feelings and emotions is actually a combination of comedy and drama. G. Clooney gives a brilliant performance and makes his character very true-to-life. He is good at playing both the arrogant workaholic obsessed by his career and the highly sensitive romantic able to show true feelings of affection and compassion to people around. The alterations he undergoes throughout the movie are interesting to follow and make you think about the true values of human life.
