What makes celebrities who they are?

Every now and again we hear or read about film stars and famous performers. The increase in the number of celebrities in showbiz is because, to a greater extent, of the massive scope and scale of the media industries featuring celebrities' lives and enabling them to be viewed more often and in diverse places. Talent, fame and not much education would suffice to make you a millionaire celebrity. Often, the profit celebrities gain from movies or albums does not depend on talent. Luck is first and foremost. Big names bring money to Hollywood. There are thousands of performers who are, obviously, much better than some celebs we admire and talk about. However, their names would appear in small print, if printed. Being in the spotlight, they set patterns of conduct for ordinary people. Very often they set a negative behaviour pattern for their fans. In fact, the influence that celebs have on the average person is colossal. A great many young girls do their best to look like celebs and starve to death. People try to imitate celebs, which often leads to alcohol and drug abuse, explicit behaviour and arrests. They often find their lives boring and uneventful compared to celebs' and try to act the way they do to add variety to their lives. Celebs' expensive luxury dresses and costumes, jewels, perfect tan and makeup make ordinary people feel humble, which results in low self-esteem, lack of confidence and the inferiority complex. Another impact celebrities have on our culture is that of intruding one's privacy. Nothing is hidden any longer. Paparazzi trace their every move and that seems to breach their right to privacy. They seem to be eager to risk anything to get a photo, which is a negative influence for our culture. Nonetheless, some celebs set a positive behaviour pattern by donating money to needy people, raising money for charity, helping seriously sick children, promoting a healthy spirit-flair among young people. We should not idealize celebrities, since they have both positive and negative features of character, and are imperfect, too.
